After a long, and sometimes hot summer, the school holidays have come to an end!  And as the first week at school gets underway parents are being urged by safety organisation TyreSafe to ensure that cars used on the school run are fitted with safe and legal tyres.                        

So to help ensure you transport your precious load safely, and avoid a hefty £2,500 fine, we have compiled 3 simple checks you can do at home:

1. Tyre pressure - should be in line with those recommended by the car manufacturer (see vehicle handbook)
2. Tread depths - should be greater than the UK's minimum legal tread depth of 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre, around its entire circumference.
3. General tyre condition - to ensure there are no lumps, cuts or foreign objects embedded in the tread.
